When you build a story world, one component that must be included is religion. If your story world is on earth, you can, of course, use a standard religion. But let’s have a little fun and create something unique. The Huffington Post recently held a Create Your Own Religion contest. The call for submissions read:

All religions had to start somewhere. There are 7 billion people out there who need something to believe, bring out your inner missionary and get converting!

Writing Prompt: Check out some of the 100+ religions submitted for the contest. Pick out one of the submissions or create your own. Write a scene about a ceremony or ritual in that religion.

Journaling Prompt: Write about something you love enough that you might consider worshiping it.

Art Prompt: idol

Nonfiction / Speechwriting Prompt: Tell your audience the story about the origins of a world religion.
