I first learned this truth during a difficult time in my life: the things that I had always depended on to carry me forward were holding me back. Once I saw that in myself, I began to notice it as a theme in many of the books I read. Often, the character’s greatest strength is also their fatal flaw, such as Scarlett O’Hara’s stubborn pride in Gone with the Wind by Margaret Mitchell.

Writing Prompt: Develop a character sketch in which your character’s greatest strength will turn out to work again him or her.
